現在、私は陶芸における「道具と制作の関係性」に関心があります。2017年、中国・宜興にて急須のルーツとされている紫砂の急須作りを学びました。一般的に紫砂急須は、約百種類の道具を用いて複雑な制作工程を効率的にこなし、精密で完全な造形を追求します。その経験から、紫砂急須をめぐる作業的な制作や、規格化された造形のイメージを解体するため、「道具」の新しい解釈を模索しはじめました。本来の道具の機能や形をベースに再構成し、土から独自に作った約80種類の「道具」、その「道具」を用いて制作した「紫砂急須」は、素材・道具・制作行為の繋がりを大切にしています。なお、作業過程を映像で可視化しました。
The city of Yixing, located in Jiangsu, China, is thought to be the birthplace of teapots. The teapots from Yixing are made from purple clay, and over a hundred tools are used in the sophisticated yet efficient process of crafting each teapot into its precise form.
In these works, the functionality of “tools” used in ceramics was re-interpreted by taking a critical approach to the procedural production process and standardized image of teapots.
Using original “tools” which were redesigned and hand-made from clay, an innovative depiction of teapots is expressed by placing a focus on the connection between the materials, tools, and manufacturing process of creating a teapot. In addition, the production process is presented in the form of video.
